Otago Peninsula – Natures Wonders

One of NZ’s most renowned eco tourism areas

A 3 ½ -4 hour return trip travelling the low road to Taiaroa Head, stopping for a look at Otakou Marae on the way, while at Natures Wonders you take a 1 hour guided tour experiencing an exhilarating ride in an 8-wheel drive, all terrain Argo vehicle. Here, amidst truly spectacular scenery, are the worlds rarest penguins, Hoiho the ‘Yellow-Eyed’, the little Blue Penguins, the NZ Fur Seals and Cormorants (Shags) all living in their natural environment. We may also have the unique opportunity to view the Royal Albatross in flight as we return to the city via the high road for the most picturesque scenery towards the Pacific Ocean on one side, the Otago harbour on the other and Dunedin City straight ahead.

Catlins 1 Day

Our day takes in the following stops after travelling via Balclutha and Kaka Point.

Nugget Point Light House – Short walking track to view fur seals, elephant seals and NZ sea lions. This is a breeding area for, sooty shear-water, shags and yellow-eyed penguins.

Surat Bay – a walk along sandy beach, named after the sailing vessel ‘ Surat’ wrecked in 1874. A great place to catch up with the hooker sea lions.

Purakaunui Falls (15 min walk) and or McLean Falls (40 min walk)

Cathedral Caves – 45 min bush & beach walk to spectacular caves. These are only accessible at low tide so it will depend on the day if we can do this walk. There is an additional gate charge of $3 per person with this option.

Curio Bay - One of the world’s finest fossil forests exposed at low tide. Might even get to see a Hector dolphins at next doors Porpoise Bay.

Not to mention lots of beautiful scenery, morning, afternoon and lunch stops along the way. You can either bring their own lunch or they can purchase at stops along the way. There is lots to do and see in the Catlins and these are just a few suggestions. It’s a long day, leaving Dunedin by 8am returning between 6-7pm.


Catlins 2 Day

Includes: 1 x nights (backpacker) accommodation. 

Directly from Dunedin to Invercargill. While in Invercargill we visit the museum, see the tuatara and check out the sub-antarctic display. Pickup a picnic lunch and head off to the golden beaches of Waipapa Point (start of our Catlins experience). Then off to Curio Bay – one of the world’s finest fossil forests, exposed at low tide. Stay the night at Porpoise Bay, may even get to see (swim with) the Hector dolphins.

Day 2 we head north through the Catlins taking in a walk to McLean Falls and or Purakaunui Falls. Lake Wilkie, Surat Bay – a walk along the sandy beach, named after the sailing vessel ‘ Surat’ wrecked in 1874. A great place to catch up with the hooker sea lions, and Nugget Point Light House – Short walking track to view fur seals, elephant seals and NZ sea lions. This is a breeding area for, sooty shear-water, shags and yellow-eyed penguins ( Roaring Bay). Pickup some fish & chips at Kaka point and head home to Dunedin.


Moeraki Boulders & Farm Visit

Leaving Dunedin at 10am returning between 3-4pm (5-6hrs)

Arrive at Moeraki Boulder Downs for our farm visit 11am

Lunch at Moeraki Boulders and enjoy a walk along the beach to look at the boulders

Visit the unique and picturesque fishing village

Then out to the light house and a short walk to view some yellow eyed penguins and a seal or two. Returning to Dunedin via some stunning scenic coastal roads

Lunch available at Moeraki Boulders Cafe (own expense).


Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park

2 days – 1 night

(backpacker or Motel accommodation arranged as requested)

Leaving Dunedin bright and early we’ll travel to Mt Cook via Oamaru and the Waitaki Valley arriving around 11am. Plenty of time to enjoy a short walk around Aoraki Mt Cook Village and into the main valleys.

Aoraki/Mt Cook, New Zealand's highest peak, (70,696 hectare park) is the majestic focal point of the Southern Alps, the 'backbone' of the South Island. We will spend the night on the shores of beautiful Lake Tekapo. After a bite to eat and a good rest it’s time to do some star watching.

Lake Tekapo and Mt. Cook area have a reputation for their beautiful starry nights. Known as one of the best sites for star watching in the southern hemisphere

The `Star Watching Tour', fully trained guides will explain to you all about the southern stars and objects in detail; Milky Way, Southern Cross, Magellanic Clouds, etc. Also, through their large telescope, you can watch planets, double stars, star clusters, and so on. This will be a late night so not such an early start the next day ( a bit of a sleep in is in order) before we head back to Dunedin stopping off in Oamaru for lunch and a look around the old historical part of Oamaru should have you back in Dunedin early evening.


Ski Trip – Cordrona Alpine Resort – Wanaka.

Get your group together (minimum 5) and lets head off for a fun packed time to the slopes of either Wanaka or Queenstown for some of the best and varied snow fields in Australasia. We can organise your accommodation requirements, ski/board hire & lift passes or first time ski/board packages including lessons if required. Departing Dunedin at 6.30am should have you on the slopes by 10.30 – 11 am.

Jet Boating

Wild Clutha ecology/historic adventure with Beaumont Jet               

Just 1 ½ hours drive from Dunedin 5-6 hours return trip including the Jet Boat trip of approximately 45 minutes where we will follow the river from Beaumont Bridge travel up white water shoots and rocky outcrops to Horseshoe Bend then on to the historic Swing Bridge and learn the story behind the Lonely Graves. Birdlife thrive on the river including native wood pigeons, shags, ducks, geese and many more. Blast back to Beaumont for a BBQ by the river before returning to Dunedin via Lawrence, (historic gold-mining town) Lake Mahinerangi and Waipori Falls.
